LGBTQ+
At Wildflower, we are committed to creating an inclusive and affirming therapeutic environment for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual/Allied (LGBTQIA+) population as well as gender non-binary individuals. We do this by providing a safe, nonjudgmental space in which you can explore and understand your sexual and gender identities. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship, we seek to normalize and validate your lived experience. We recognize that language greatly impacts your feelings of safety and comfort, and we seek to understand and utilize your preferred pronouns beginning at intake and throughout your work with our practice. As allies and advocates, we are committed to continuous learning and offer our team specialized trainings in this area.
We have extensive experience and training in the following areas:
- Sex and pleasure-positive therapy for non-heteronormative sexual expressions
- Liberation psychology, a highly researched form of therapy that recognizes the impact of sociopolitical forces and heteronormative rhetoric on the LGBTQIA+ identity
- Assessing for trauma and oppression within the context of gender and sexual identity expression
- Recognizing and healing from body dysmorphia
We will help you:
- Normalize and validate your individual lived experience
- Explore and understand your gender and sexual identity
- Gain insight into the impact of marginalization, oppression, and heteronormativity on your experience and its connection to mental health challenges
- Build your support network both in and outside of the therapeutic space
- Understand the intersectionality of your racial, cultural, gender and sexual identities and its impact on your lived experience
