Infertility
One in ten couples experience infertility. Infertility is often experienced as a profound existential crisis that can challenge every aspect of the couple’s life. Women frequently report an altered relationship with their bodies, acute sense of loss, and turmoil in their interpersonal relationships. Depression and anxiety symptoms are common, particularly in the presence of prolonged inability to conceive. Partners report feeling powerless, disconnected, and confused. Infertility and infertility treatments can be stressful and invasive experiences for all involved.
Our attuned and knowledgeable psychotherapists will help you face the experience of infertility and alleviate some of the accompanying distress. Together we will navigate the physical, psychological, relational, spiritual, and sexual ramifications of infertility.
Individuals and couples with infertility may benefit from psychotherapy to understand the different emotional responses within the couple during infertility challenges, relate more effective with partner, learn and implement coping skills to navigate potential depressive and anxious symptoms, and address any related sexual distress.
Every stage of coping with infertility can present unique challenges. Psychotherapy creates a safe, consistent, and non-judgmental space to process the range of emotions you might experience. If you are dealing with infertility, know that you are not alone.
In addition to individual and couples therapy, Wildflower also offers a support group that focuses on supporting you through losses associated with the infertility diagnosis and treatment, social isolation, mood and anxiety challenges, and impacts on self-esteem and relationships.
