Event Details

About this training

Affairs and infidelity in a relationship are often treated as the ultimate betrayal that a couple cannot recover from. However, a betrayal does not mean that the relationship is doomed.

In this training, psychotherapists will develop a skillset to help couples heal, restore trust, and create a foundation to make their relationship stronger and more successful than ever before.

Marco Renzi, LCSW, PMH-C of Wildflower Center for Emotional Health will be discussing the effects of affairs and betrayals on relationships and addressing how to work with ambivalence that couples may experience on the road to repair. He will then explore what recovery looks like, dive into potential complications and relapse prevention, and provide a jumping off point to enable clinicians to effectively support couples in healing from betrayal.

Learning objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • define affair and betrayal and discuss the effects of significant betrayals on intimate relationships
  • address ambivalence often arising in couples seeking to recover from an affair and betrayal
  • explore the Gottman Method’s Affair Recovery process of Atone, Attune, and Attach
  • identify and address potential challenges related to affair and betrayal recovery
