About this training
Lack of interest in sex is the most common reason female-identified clients present to sex therapy. Studies show a significant number of women across all ages report low desire and subsequent psychological and relational distress. Although male-identified clients report fewer concerns in this area, a persistent lack of interest in sex does affect this population, appearing to increase later in life. Mismatched desire levels occur in heterosexual and same-sex couples and, when left unaddressed, can increase shame, isolation, and relationship dissatisfaction.
In this training for psychotherapists treating individuals and couples with Wildflower Center For Emotional Health, Victoria Stroz, LCPC, PMH-C, and Marco Renzi, LCSW will explore the concept of sexual desire, delve into the impacts of low libido, and review its implications for the individual as well as the couple. They will discuss how clinicians can support clients in increasing their understanding of desire and how to work with couples with mismatched desire levels to improve their sexual responsiveness and relationship satisfaction. Victoria and Marco will review evidence-based treatment approaches, including assessment and interventions, for both individual and couples therapy.
